For
the myth of the "Tiger" I must not write - everyone who build
military-models or is interested in the history of the world-war-II
knows what this tank was.
The
kit of the late Tiger1 from AFV-Club is in very good quality and
only one blunder is inside: the desk of the turret cannot be fixed in
correct position, because the sideward turret parts has no correct
fitting-place.You can grind the side-parts to correct it, or you can
make the sides a little bit higher. I had decided for the last way.
Another disadvantage of the kit is, what no Zimmerit-structur is on the
parts and following the building-instruction you have to use filler to
make the structur. Credit-point of the kit are the functional
torsions-suspension, the included alu-barrel and the also enclodes
foto-etched-parts for the ventilation-grilles and the
anti-aircraft-MG-visor.
The
construction was very easy, to make the turret-sides higher I have used
soldering-wire - flat pressed and fixed with acryl-acetat. All the
outside-details I have painted extra and assemled them as the last step
in building. The modell became a Mennige-coloured priming coat, after
that I fixed the ATAK-Zimmerit-parts, also with acryl-acetat. This
ATAK-parts are build for the Dragon-Kit, but there are no greater
problems to use them also for the AFV-Kit.. As a counterweight for the
metall-barrel I have fixed a lead-weight at the guns-breech.
After
the primer was dried, I have painted the Tiger in tank-yellow over all,
and then the camouflage (orientated at the camouflages of the
heavy-tank-units of the SS-Panzerdivisionen) was painted. Unfortunately
I was unable to find pictures or fotos of an original-tank, because I
wants to represent a tank of the last war-days before capitulation in
the arrea of Krems/Lower-Austria.
As camouflage was finsihed, I
started to create the scratches and "wears and tears". Also partially
the modell was lightenend to simulate the effect of sun and weather.
At
next the Friul-chains - they was only painted in seems and groves
with flat black - was mounted. So the modell looks at this moment:
As colours I have used Vallejo-Model-Air,
for detailing, weathering and rusting I have used aquarellic water colours. After the outside-detail-parts was fixed, I have painted some details again, and the modell was finished.
Happy modelling
