Enamel-Colours and (Click on small pic opens the greater one - Click on closes this one)
Dear Friends of modelling, whoever doesn't know it,
the unpleasant problems with the small enamel-tins. So many deceased good
colors and then, how can I them up easily and well? We should notice, that the
most of the acrylic-colors are only brushable after excessive shake up. The
Enamel-colours are different from the others; often tehy become sediments or
color-lumps, that wants stirred up well. In this occasion it is very important
to stir up well to get good results in airbrushing.
With this problem in the background, I have made a few
thoughts for me, how I could actually stir up these colors - with a low
expenses-use.
How have I proceeded so far? Now I have stirred up the
colors by means of toothpicks with the hand.
Disadvantage is the long unequivocally in order to get an even
distribution of color and solvents stirs.
Therefore, I have myself 2 alternatives liked to consider
them/her/it I you here introducing would like.
Version 1:
There are so-called Milk-foamer in many low-markets
for example. These are actually to foams milk for coffee, but I have taken a
small change. Simply cutting the low part with the spiral and already it works
out with the color.
Put the cutted-foamer in the color-can and switch on, a few
minutes equally back and forth drives and the color is stirred well. But please, take heed of, to switch on if the foamer is in the can -
otherwise you will become a "well painted work-place" ........

After a time only switch out foamer and get him out - thats
all.
Advantage of this system is the low expenses-share with
approximately Euro 2-5,-- and it is with battery, therefore no troubles with
cables.
Version 2:
Some of modellers have Dremel or a similar product for
drilling or grinding. This tool can be also very well to stir up. Simply I have
taken an old shaper, here, one can take certainly also other alternatives. On
the shapers-head, a propeller of an old model was fixed with cyanid-glue.

Alternatively, also another metal-propeller from the
specialized model-ship-store can be used. Metal is the better material, because
some of the enamel-colours have nitro as solvent, and this nitro can dissolve
plastic. It is only important that the prop is smaller than the opening of the
color-cans. The handling is like the first version, hold the prop in the can
deeply and appliance switch on. But respect, work with low speed and look that
the current-direction is downward in the can. Also here is valid: turn off
first and then take them out of the can.

As alternative, you can take also an accumulator-drill here
for the model-construction. Advantage of this system, using a multi-tool is,
that many modellers has one; as disadvantage, actually only the cable is can be
a problem.
And the cleaning is also quite simple, I use a small glas
filled with Nitro-solvent to do this. Simply bring your tool in the glass,
switch on and a little lets run, power off and with a handkerchief or tissue
wipes off. Already, it is clean and ready for next use.

I hope, this tip is bringing simplification to you and give
a little help in working with your colour-cans.
With modellers best wishes.
